What data can I access through the Biodiversity Portal for New Caledonia?
The portal provides:
- Datasets on terrestrial and marine biodiversity,
- Collections of specimens, observations, photos and checklists,
- Data coming from public and collaborative databases (Herbarium, Corals, Macroalgae, etc.),
- Citizen-science datasets (PlantNet, BioCollect…).
Which data standards do you use?
Data are published using international standards (Darwin Core, GBIF, SINP) to ensure interoperability and global access.
Is the portal open to everyone?
Yes! The portal is intended for New Caledonian audiences (schools, citizens, associations, protected-area managers), researchers, and the international community.
Can I contribute or report observations?
Yes—through the integrated citizen-science tools (e.g., BioCollect). More tools and guides are coming.
Is the portal multilingual?
Yes. The portal is gradually translated into French, English, and some Kanak languages (in collaboration with the Académie des langues kanakes).
Can I reuse the data?
Unless stated otherwise, data are open and reusable under a CC-BY license or equivalent. Always check the rights indicated for each dataset.
